Upcoming IIAS 2024 Conference Spotlights International Collaborative Governance

Diogo Pereira,

The International Institute of Administrative Science (IIAS) is gearing up to host its annual conference in collaboration with the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Mombasa, Kenya, from February 26 to 29, 2024. This year's conference, themed "International Collaborative Governance," promises to provide participants with invaluable insights into the horizontal ethos of collaborative governance on the international stage.

The conference program is designed to offer a comprehensive exploration of international collaborative governance, featuring plenary sessions, thematic track sessions, a social program for networking, and IIAS governance meetings. Dr. Younes Abouyoub from the United Nations and Dr. Tom Wanyama from KSG will serve as the scientific chairpersons.

A highlight of the conference will be the Plenary Session on SDG 16.8, chaired by Dr. Younes Abouyoub, focusing on broadening, and strengthening the participation of developing countries in the institutions of global governance. Esteemed speakers including Dr. Aziz Ajbilou from Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and Dr. Fadhel Kaboub from Denison University will share their expertise on this critical topic, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The conference will also host the panel “Governance for Sustainable Ageing and Wellbeing: An IIAS initiative for frontier policy research”, chaired by Dr. Steve Troupin (IIAS) and co-chaired by Dr. Raymond Saner (Basle University and the Centre for Socio-Eco-Nomic Development). In this thought-provoking panel, speakers will delve into diverse perspectives to illuminate critical factors of development, talent distribution, innovation, and governance. Spanning a wide spectrum of topics, the presentations will leave attendees with a nuanced understanding of China's digital landscape, armed with knowledge to inform strategic decisions and policy formulations in an ever-evolving digital era.

Furthermore, the event will feature the prestigious Braibant Lecture, presented by Prof. Hideaki Shiroyama and delivered by Geraldine J. Fraser Moleketi, Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University and Chairperson of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration. The Braibant lecture is an award granted by the IIAS to an individual, for his/her contribution to the advancement of the public governance discipline in general and to the Institute in particular. It is named after Guy Braibant, Président de la section du rapport et des études du Conseil d’Etat (1985-1992) and IIAS Director General (1979-1981) and President (1992-1995).

"We are excited to host this year's conference in partnership with KSG, offering attendees a unique opportunity to explore the intricacies of international collaborative governance," said Dr. Steve Troupin, IIAS Executive Secretary and Director of Projects and Collaborations. "With a diverse program featuring renowned speakers and thought-provoking sessions, we aim to foster meaningful dialogue and drive positive change in the field of public governance", reinforced Dr. Sofiane Sahraoui, IIAS Director General.

Participants are encouraged to check the conference program for more information and to register if they haven't already done so. Don't miss out on this enriching opportunity to connect with experts, share insights, and advance the discourse on international collaborative governance.
